چکیده

Recently, a body of computer vision research has studied the task of highthroughput plant phenotyping (measurement of plant attributes). The goal is to more rapidly and more accurately estimate plant properties as compared to conventional manual methods. In this work, we develop a method to measure two primary yield attributes of interest; stalk count and stalk width that are important for many broadacre annual crops (sorghum, sugarcane, corn, maize for example). Prior work of using convolutional deep neural networks for plant analysis has either focused on object detection or dense image segmentation. In our work, we develop a novel pipeline that accurately extracts both detected object regions and dense semantic segmentation for extracting both stalk counts and stalk width. A ground-robot called the Robotanist is used to deploy a high-resolution stereo imager to capture dense image data of experimental plots of Sorghum plants. We ground-truth validate data extracted using two humans who assess the traits independently and we compare both accuracy and efficiency of human versus robotic measurements. Our method yields R-squared correlation of 0.88 for stalk count and a mean absolute error of 2.77mm where average stalk width is 14.354mm. Our approach is 30 times faster for stalk count and 270 times faster for stalk width measurement.

Variation of chemical and morphological properties of different parts of banana plant (Musa paradisica) and their effects on pulping

Chemical and morphological characterization of different parts of banana plant(Musa paradisica) (peduncle, leaf stalk and pseudo stem) were carried out in orderto assess their potentiality for chemical pulp. Each portion was tested forextractives, sodium hydroxide solubility, ash, lignin, cellulose and pentosancontents as well as their fiber length and width. These segmented parts werecharacter...

Effects of nitrogen fertilizer and plant growth regulator on stalk yield and bioethanol in sweet sorghum . Maryam Usofzadeh1 *, Mashalla Daneshvar1, Abbas Almodares2 and Hamid Reza Eisvand1

In this study, the effects of nitrogen fertilizer and plant growth regulator (ethephon) application on leaf chlorophyl, stem height and diameter, stalk yield, total sugar and bioethanol of sweet sorghum were determined. Four nitrogen treatments 0, 100, 200 and 300 Kg Urea ha-1 and four ethephon concentrations 0, 800, 1000, and 1200 ppm were applied on sweet sorghum in a split plot on randomized...

Preliminary study of the physical and mechanical properties of soya stalk flour/high density polyethylene composite

The use of agriculture residues as filler in composites is increasing due to their strength, abundance and low cost. Soya stalks show promising renewable natural fiber. In polyethylene composites the physical and mechanical properties (flexural resistance, tensile, impacted absorbed energy, water uptake and thickness swelling) was examined at different composites. The results showed that, the m...
